Stamford American School Hires Teachers to Inspire Children to “Achieve More Than They Believe They Can”

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” – William Arthur Ward

As a school which upholds a vision of leading every individual to “achieve more than they believe they can”, Stamford American School is committed to hiring teachers who inspire, invigorate and motivate children with the drive to excel in their chosen paths.

Stamford is pleased to have completed its recruitment process and has been fortunate to hire an outstanding faculty who are dedicated, passionate about their subject area and excited by the prospect of working within a diverse community.

Some teachers are joining Stamford Hong Kong from its sister campus in Singapore and other international schools within the renowned Cognita schools network, while others have been recruited from overseas – the majority of whom have U.S. teaching experience.

Stamford’s faculty has a tremendous experience base and qualifications, including 75% of whom have Master's Degrees. Other teachers are also either concurrently studying for a Master's Degree or already have education and leadership certifications and qualifications beyond their Bachelor's Degrees.

As teachers at a school with a vibrant international student body, many Stamford teachers are also TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified and highly experienced in working with students from different backgrounds and cultures. A Teacher Profiles Brochure is available online for families to read more about each teacher’s credentials, teaching experience and aspirations for Stamford American School.

Professional development is an ongoing priority at Stamford as it believes a school flourishes when its teachers are committed to lifelong learning. All Stamford teachers are trained in AERO and Common Core Plus standards and have time built into their schedules to work with their grade level colleagues to share ideas and teaching strategies. This will ensure the successful delivery of Stamford’s rigorous standards-based and inquiry-driven education program.

As a school that also places a special focus on innovation and STEM education, Stamford has recruited 5 STEMinn leaders who will help to drive the school's progressive, problem-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & Innovation Program. Open-minded and curious, all Stamford teachers help students form connections across disciplines and emphasize active, collaborative learning.

While Stamford has established high standards for academic achievement and performance, the school’s educational program has been created with an emphasis on the development of the whole child. Beyond their specific areas of expertise, all Stamford teachers have diverse interests and skills to lead quality afterschool Co-Curricular Activities (CCA’s) to enrich and supplement the education experience at school. When Stamford opens its doors in September 2017, a number of teachers will lead CCA’s across the arts, sports and academia, including gymnastics, innovation, robotics, choir, basketball and impressionist art.

Stamford has also engaged the services of specially selected external experts to lead a number of other CCA’s to maximize the breadth of activities offered. Among these opportunities include fencing coached by Hong Kong’s very own two-time Olympic Fencer Coach Kin, performing arts workshops led by the drama experts at Faust International Youth Theater, soccer led by coaches holding English and Hong Kong soccer coaching licenses, coding courses by First Code Academy, and Vaganova Method Ballet led by the professionals at Russian Ballet Academy.

With these high quality programs in place and highly experienced faculty on board, Stamford is excited to welcome families to the school when it commences later this year.
