Cambridge Summer Camp 2017 is ideal for students who would like to apply to the University of Cambridge or other top UK universities.

All Reach Cambridge programs include the same 5 core elements, so no matter which program you choose, you can’t go wrong:

  • University Preparation - Live in a prestigious university city, experience university-style classes and university life.

  • International Experience - Meet new people from around the world, learn about different cultures and make friends for life!

  • Fantastic Excursions & Activities - Have loads of fun, with trips to the most famous places in the UK: London, Stratford, Brighton and Oxford.

  • Personal Development - Learn how to manage your own free time and balance it with your studies: shopping, sightseeing, sport and drama all within a safe, supervised environment.

  • Academic Excellence - Study with exceptional teachers and rediscover your passion for learning whilst you grow in confidence.

Dates
Program 1: 2nd July – 22nd July
Program 2: 24th July – 6th August
Program 3: 7th August – 20th August

1: The Explorer program is the original Reach Cambridge course: A 3 week summer program that carefully mixes academic study in the mornings, mind-expanding lectures in the evenings and excursions around the country at the weekends with plenty of time for activities and extra-curricular development in the afternoons. This is the classic choice for many students and can now be combined with The Leader program for a 5 week experience.
2: The Leader program, running over 2 weeks, combines academic classes in the mornings with afternoon workshops on the theme of leadership, as well as excursions around the country and extra-curricular activities in the spare time. Students wanting to stay with us for longer are encouraged to combine the Leader program with either the Explorer or the Scholar program.
3: The Scholar program, running over 2 weeks, is our most academic program, with classes in both morning and afternoon, but there is still plenty of time for activities over lunch and in the evenings and excursions around the country at the weekends. For a great balance, why not combine with the Leader program for a 4 week Reach Cambridge experience!

GYL – Debating and Critical Thinking (Boys and girls ages 12-17)

Debating and Critical Thinking
Now in its eleventh year, Global Young Leaders is a premium debate and communication course for students aged 12 to 17. The skills learned can be applied to wider academic study, and careers in business, the Law and leadership in general.

Annually, participants from various countries are coached and mentored by staff recruited from elite academic institutions. Small class sizes allow Global Young Leaders to emulate the formula of Oxford and Cambridge supervisions, and empowerstudents to make enormous progress within two engaging weeks.

Debating as a Key Life Skill
Competitive debating is now widely recognised within the academic community as a powerful tool for a student’s self-development. Helping a child to nurture an authentic and articulate voice enables them to thrive beyond the debating chamber, with many seeing a marked improvement in exam performance and day-to-day confidence. That confidence can prove invaluable in the classroom and beyond, with admissions offices for many of the world’s best universities identifying structured thought and communication skills as key indicators of a candidate’s potential.

The growing recognition of these considerable benefits has seen the World Schools Debating Championships move from strength to strength, with over 50 countries now participating annually. Global Young Leaders gives students comprehensive coaching within this debate format, providing them with a unique window into the World Schools environment, which has earned so many plaudits from orators and statesman such as Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela.

Developing a Global Perspective
Global Young Leaders takes students with a range of debating experience and integrates them all within mixed classes which are structured in such a way as to encourage cooperation and mutual support across the student body. The international perspective of our students, a result of their diverse backgrounds, further emphasises the benefits of cooperative learning.

Debate is only one half of the course experience, with other lessons focusing on global themes such as politics, economics and law. The unique combination of critical thought with debate is key to the Global Young Leaders approach and succeeds in giving students something they want to say whilst empowering them to say it. Outside the classroom, students can participate in a wide range of sporting and social activities held every evening. The course includes two days per week on which students enjoy excursions to Oxford, Cambridge and London. The Oxbridge trips are organised by students from those universities, and give unique insights into the history, admissions process and college life offered there.

Covering a range of themes including International Relations, the history of political thought, applied ethics, and advanced economic principles, the PPE course works alongside the debating course to enable students to critically engage with the world around them.
