From the ChalkFace has published a series of articles on issues affecting young people’s health, and this recent CNN headline — “If you drink bottled water, you could double how many microplastic particles you ingest, study says,” caught our attention. Especially since the amount of bottled water consumed in Hong Kong (and in all of Asia, for that matter) is substantial.
The report goes on to say “The full impact on our health isn't known. Research shows some particles are small enough to enter our tissues, where they can trigger an immune reaction, or release toxic substances and pollutants absorbed from the environment, including heavy metals.”
The bottom line seems to be that it would seem prudent to try to limit the intake of these potential harmful micro plastics. Maybe parents may want to consider replacing the plastics they give to their children with aluminum bottles instead.
