Eight arrested for bullying

By ITS Education Asia

Stop bullying slogan on paper sheet

In recent news, eight students at Yan Chai Hospital Tung Chi Ying Memorial Secondary School have been arrested and released on bail for bullying a schoolmate. The school insists that there was no bullying and that it was an example of play that had gone too far. This is a delicate distinction that the police have to navigate. What is considered play and what warrants arrest is very murky, and it is up to legislation to provide a clearer definition of what warrants an arrest. Going back to a ChalkFace article “Bullying Nationwide”, we asked how Hong Kong should deal with bullying. Is this how we should deal with it?
