How students over-estimate their teamwork ability

By ITS Education Asia

Here is an interesting piece from University of Central Florida Professor Stephen Fiore about teamwork. For many years we have realized how important it is to be able to work in a team. Indeed, when we prep students for interviews here at ITS we often have to deal with the problem of how to show you can both work in a team and work independently or lead a team. Prof. Fiore's research shows how many of us over estimate our ability to collaborate effectively and often because teamwork is not actually taught very much in schools.

Just because you do something in a group does not mean you have learned to do something well in a group. What we need is more teaching of teamwork, more practice and more feedback. If you would like to add to your skills in this important area you may also consider joining our summer programme on 'The Success Principles'.
