With Christmas time officially over, and Chinese New Year just around the corner, it is almost second nature to go on social media to do a haul of the gifts and money that one gets during these festivities. Social media has allowed for a whole new level of showing off. However, a recent article published in The Independent highlights the effect this has on less well-off peers.
Not knowing where to draw the line with what to post has become a norm for kids growing up in this digital age: “...they need to be taught that actually it is not OK to share everything.” says one principal. It not only affects other pupils but enables unhealthy overly consumerist behavior in the students themselves. Overall, students need to encourage young people to think about what they are posting and to become more mindful of their behavior both off and online.
