Take the money and run: how Australian universities let down their Chinese students

By ITS Education Asia

The following opinion piece from The Guardian is quite negative on how Australian Universities are supporting students from China. The author (Yang Tian) believes that “Our (Australian) institutions are quick to accept their money but far too slow to invest in the tools to ensure their inclusion.”

Yang is an Australian Chinese student. As an extract from the article shows, “Classes heavily based in discussion and group work often became divided between the local students who band together to ensure a decent mark, other international students with English proficiency who gravitate together or join the local groups, and the Chinese students who cling to each other for solidarity and security.”

While this is an opinion piece, it is still well worth a read for second language Chinese students considering study in Australia.
