Women in computing - there is good news and bad

By ITS Education Asia

Here is an interesting article from the BBC reporting on the current situation in regards to women taking computer science subjects in the UK.  While there has been some increases in more women taking computer science qualifications at universities the number of girls taking computer science in secondary education has been falling.

I've been told two stories in recent days about the gender gap in computing education.

The good news: a major university has doubled the number of women arriving to study computer science in the space of a year.

The bad: the latest GCSE figures show the number of girls getting any kind of computing qualification at school continues to decline.

The article goes on to offer suggestions for reforms that could be introduced to try an reverse the decline in girls taking computer science at secondary school level.
