I recently read an opinion piece stating that an “ailing” school system in Hong Kong is due to unhappy teachers and students. This isn’t really shocking news for anyone in Hong Kong. Apparently, a recent survey by the Hong Kong Psychological Society found that 52.2% of teachers show symptoms of depression and fatigue, with Hong Kong secondary students having a similar rate. Unfortunately, the M.O. for Hong Kong schools has long been rote learning, and it’s no wonder why private schools in Hong Kong are in such demand. The author of the piece made an interesting point, that senior officials should be required to have their children in the local school system. I for one fully support this idea.
Should Senior Hong Kong Educational officials have their children enrolled in the local system?
