The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Given we are now studying for the end of year exams, it is great to see that Andrew has been well prepared for tutorials by knowing in advance the topics and past exams that he wants and needs to review. He appears to be doing a sufficient amount of study outside of class to compliment the tutoring sessions and now needs to ensure he converts this effort to remembering skills.
Khalid continues to show confidence in our lessons. In the beginning, he would be reticent if he didn’t clearly understand something, but lately his attitude is becoming more positive as his understanding increases. He has good work habits. Occasionally he will make good summarized version of the topics we have covered.
Luke needs to check his answer as he tends to make silly mistakes. He needs to work on his timetable and sometime will even give wrong answers such as 8 x 8 = 63. However, I ask him to check his work he would discover that the correct answer should be 64 instead. He needs to develop good habits when attempting Maths.
You provided two online lessons to prepare for an admissions test at an international school within short notice. The lessons could even be scheduled on Saturdays and other flexible hours. They gave my daughter confidence and an understanding on what to expect and she thankfully passed!
My son started with you at the end of Year 6 at an ESF primary school, when it became clear that his maths wasn't getting the attention it needed (he had been doing very well in Y4, but the school hadn't noticed a lack of progress by Y6 and became very defensive about our attempts to work out what was happening). Initially, although he enjoyed the weekly sessions themselves, he resented the fact that they impinged on his time. He later came to see how much he was getting out of them, saying that he wished he had started them earlier and that he enjoys maths lessons in school more because he has the opportunity to discuss the subjects being taught in classes in more depth one-to-one. Essentially, where in a largish class (ESF secondary) there can be limited opportunities to clear up questions, having these sessions makes up for that. He is now in Y11 and continues to get a lot out of the sessions. His own comment (on reading this review before I post it) is that he generally covers the material with the tutor before he does it at school, so he finds he is well prepared for the class. I get the impression that the fact that the tutors are engaging as people has also helped keep him interested (as a teenager): although his lessons have been in maths, their conversations have over the years taken them into the tutors' other areas of expertise, such as applications in economics and physics, which has kept them stimulating. I am completely happy with the experience and would strongly recommend it.
Both my husband and I were born and raised overseas, so when it came down to applying for schools for our two boys, we had no idea where to start. I worked with Anne and the team for both my sons and I cannot recommend the team enough! Anne provided us with a customized plan based on our priorities and each of our sons’ interests, strengths and weaknesses. She went through all the options and gave pros and cons to every school so we knew exactly which schools we were going for. Then when it came time to submit applications, she would give us reminders to make sure we didn’t miss any deadlines. The whole process just made us feel more in control of the situation and kept our sanity in check. More importantly, Anne and the team genuinely care about the families. We weren't just another client to them - we developed a close relationship with the whole team and we are still in contact now even after our boys have been accepted to our top choice in school.
