What do I enjoy most about tutoring?😁
Often, tutees look for a tutor because they can not catch up with the lessons in class. I have realized that it stems from a lack in their foundational knowledge in a subject. What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing the smiles and the aha moments that my tutees experience once they are able to understand and digest their lessons after tackling any issues in their foundational knowledge.
My Strengths as Tutor💪
I would consider my adaptability and empathy as my strengths as a tutor. I believe I can adapt well based on my student's needs and can identify quickly what he or she may lack. With my empathy, I believe I have strong interpersonal skills, which could help me interact and deliver my lessons effectively to my tutees.
Most important things I can do for a student🏅
There are a few things I can do for a student. If the subject is a technical one, for example, chemistry and math, patterns/rules do exist. Understanding them is the key to students' mastery of these subjects. This is the first thing I can do for students, to help them understand the 'why' behind such rules/patterns and connect it back to the basics (schema learning strategy). A clear example of this is why 11 divided by 0 is undefined. It is undefined because division is repeated subtraction that should eventually result to 0. For this case, "11-0-0-0...-0" goes on forever. This is why the answer is undefined. Additionally, by learning the 'why' will help students become more interested in mastering the subject as they are not memorizing the content (which can be demotivating or tiresome).
Building a good rapport and making the learning process fun is another crucial aspect that I keep in mind when structuring the lesson. With rapport, the students are more open to voicing out their weaknesses in their foundational knowledge, and giving feedback on the lesson (for improvement).

High School Diploma
I am currently an incoming Year 3 student at CUHK, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I have attained a level 5 Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification. Furthermore, I have received formal training and workshops in blockchain and different programming languages (i.e., Java, Python, Arduino). Aside from those, I love to do creative hobbies, such as cooking and arts.
Over the last 3 years (2019-2022), I have accumulated more than 300 hours dedicated to teaching. Mostly, I have taught with students, who are aged 3-12 years old. I do have some experience teaching teens and those with special education needs. I taught a variety of subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Singaporen-based math, English as a second language, and synthetic phonics. Some of my students were looking to prep themselves for upcoming tests such as IELTS, and IGSCE.
