What is the UCAT?

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a computer-based entrance exam required by most UK medical and dental schools. Over 37,000 students take it each year, and it plays a key role in securing interview invitations.

Unlike school exams, the UCAT tests cognitive skills, attitudes, and professional behaviours – not academic knowledge. It is taken at official Pearson VUE test centres, including in Hong Kong, once per year between July and October.

The Four Subtests

The three scaled sections (VR, DM, QR) combine for a total score of 900–2700. Situational Judgement (SJ) is scored separately as a band. Can I sit the UCAT in Hong Kong?

Yes. The UCAT is administered at official Pearson VUE test centres, and there is a centre located in Hong Kong. You register directly via the official UCAT consortium website (ucat.ac.uk) and select Hong Kong as your preferred location. Seats fill quickly, so early registration is strongly advised.

When is the UCAT test window?

The UCAT test window runs annually from July to October. Registration typically opens in May. ITS advises students to register and book their test date as early as possible, as Hong Kong slots are limited.

How early should I start preparing?

We recommend beginning 8–12 weeks before your test date. The UCAT rewards consistent, structured practice — earlier is always better.
