Choosing a course

Before you start, you will need to think about a few things that will help you make the right decision. We recommend you ask yourself these questions first before contacting an ITS counselor.

Questions to ask before choosing a suitable course:

  • What qualification does the course lead to?
We provide courses that lead to International GCSE, International A-level (both live and video based) or BTEC HND qualifications. We can also support many other curriculums (IGCSE, A-level, IB) with live online tutorial.
  • Is this qualification appropriate for me?
Think about how old you are and how much learning you have already done. Study the A-level or GCSE subject specifications to see what they are intended for e.g. A-levels are for gaining entry to university. Think about whether you are taking all your qualifications online or just one or two to supplement your other learning. You also need to consider the amount of time you can or are willing to dedicate to your studies. Our courses offer flexible learning options which will fit around you so you can study as quickly as you like or take the full study period to complete your course.
  • What are the main aims of these courses? What will I learn?
The A-level or GCSE subject specifications give you all you need to know. Our video based course page has an overview of some of the most popular A-level subjects. Have a look at this page for more information about the IGCSE courses.
  • Where will the qualification take me next?
Who recognizes the qualification? What is the qualification designed for? International GCSEs, for example, prepare students for senior high/secondary school. Here is is a very useful Recognition Database for CIE qualifications. Edexcel qualifications can be searched here.
  • How is it taught and who are the teachers?
Lessons are taught through our virtual classroom, which you access from your computer. You will be given a log-in to your own account. From there you can either watch video lessons or join a live, real-time classroom. There are no downloads, evertyhting is could and browser-based. In your account log-in area, you will also have the opportunity to access homework subsission feedback and a forum fucntion. All lessons, whether pre-prepared video lessons or live real-time lessons, are delivered by ITS school teachers who also work in our physical schools in Hong Kong, registered and accredited by both the KHong Kong Education Bureau and the Edecel examin ation. You can see sample videos on the subject pages found here (dis ed) and see teacher profiles here (photos) (click on a teachers' name to see a more detailed profile).
  • What course materials are provided?
ITS provides plentiful resources for each qualification but you may choose to add more. For example, there may be recommended textbooks that may be ideal for yout to purchase.
  • How are the qualifications assessed?
Both IGCSE and International A-level are assessed by examination. You must register with the examination board through an official examination centre which will be the lcoation where you must physically sit the exams. ITS is one such centre if you are able to come to Hong Kong. BTEC, on the other hand, is assessed fully by coursework submission throughout the duration of the course. This work is marked by your instructor and moderated by Edexcel. Please note that there is no assessment online.
  • How much does it cost?
We have a variety of courses and learning modes so that we can provide a variety of pathways to these global qualifications to suit different budgets. If you are unsure of the price of a course please contact us directly.
  • When do I have to apply?
ITS welcomes applications year-round. When we receive your application, we will let you know how this fits with the official assessment time frames, and help you make the best choice for when to start your course.
