The PM of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is pushing for the country to adopt a more practical approach to education, with a series of recommendations for the education sector.
The government is expected to introduce new learning materials in schools, and an increase in education in financial management.
Dr Mahathir is also proposing for a new Islamic education curriculum which will inculcate values espoused by the faith to Muslim students.
Malaysia will also bring back “Vision schools”, which are design to foster racial cohesion, and development of unity in Malaysia.
The government will also increase the budgets of Vocational and Technical programs (TVET). Mahathir stated “all stakeholders must work towards realising an industry-led TVET to reduce problems arising from skills mismatch and high dependency on foreign labour.
