I was very saddened when reading this recent article in the SCMP about a recent mass shooting at a school in Brazil carried out by an ex-student. It is difficult to imagine what motivates a person to attack defenseless children in such a callous and lethal manner.
The recent trend in school shootings that have been witnessed in the US by ex-students may be triggering copycat behavior in other locations. We all can be thankful here in Hong Kong these kinds of senseless acts of violence have not happened, but we all need to remain vigilant and should report any suspicious behavior to the relevant authorities. Keeping our youth safe is everyone’s responsibility.
