This is the second year that students are taking re-vamped GCSE exams in a raft of subjects. The new courses are part of a package of reforms by former Education Secretary Michael Gove, designed to toughen up syllabuses, make courses more linear, and cut down on the number of students getting A*s.
There have been complaints that students are being used as “guinea pigs.” Many students are likely to be disappointed with their results, as teachers have struggled to accurately predict grades under the new system.
It should be pointed out that these changes are with the GCSE and the GCE A –levels NOT the IGCSE or the International A-levels which many students sit in Hong Kong.
