For native speakers of Japanese, there is the Hong Kong Japanese School on Hong Kong Island. The school, which was established to serve the Japanese community in Hong Kong, offers a comprehensive education for students from P1 to P6 and S1 to S3 and it follows the Japanese curriculum. While the curriculum includes a wide range of subjects - mathematics, science, language arts, social studies and physical education - it also places a strong emphasis on Japanese language instruction, ensuring that students maintain fluency in their native language while living overseas. The Japanese International School (JIS) is an award-winning primary school located in Tai Po, in the New Territories, and is managed by the same company as the Hong Kong Japanese School. Its Japanese section constitutes the Tai Po campus of the Japanese School while the International Section (https://es.jis.edu.hk/index.php) follows the IB Primary Years Programme. The two streams share facilities such as special classrooms and the swimming pool. In addition to the opportunity to learn Japanese and Mandarin, children in the International Section also enjoy a strong focus on outdoor education.
